LME Scholarships programme
 The LME scholarships programme gives talented people with limited financial means the opportunity to study at top mining schools globally.
Camborne School of Mines (part of the University of Exeter) and the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa are the LME’s first programme partners. Every year both universities turn away talented people who cannot afford the fees.
 The LME and Camborne School of Mines are creating CSM’s first fully funded PhD scholarship to be awarded on the basis of both academic merit and financial need. The successful student will be funded to do a PhD in Mining Engineering or Minerals Engineering over three years.
In July 2009 Solomon Ewusi became the first recipient of an LME PhD scholarship
 The LME and Wits are creating a series of scholarships for undergraduates studying Mining Engineering. Two scholarships will fund tuition fees and enable the undergraduates to live on campus, five further scholarships will fund fees only. Last year 1,251 students applied for 158 first year places. The LME’s scholarships will support those students who successfully win a place but struggle to fund it.
Through these scholarships the LME and its members are committed to supporting the mining industry and the young people choosing it as their career. The students will come from all countries where the metals industry is developing and the aim is that they will use their learning to advance the industry in their home countries.
