Hedge Accounting

In partnership with Deloitte and Meriman Limited our course provides you with a highly interactive learning experience on the application of hedge accounting theory.

This course is limited to 16 delegates and each delegate will have access to a laptop with an interactive risk management application for building and stress-testing their own hedging strategies.

Trainers
The course will be presented by Craig Kennedy, senior manager of Deloitte’s Financial Instruments Solutions team and  David Ward and David Coxell, partners of Meriman Ltd, whose risk management applications have been used by LME member firms.

Duration: 1 Day

Who should attend

The course will be suitable for you if you seek a fundamental and comprehensive understanding of hedge accounting for yourself or your clients, with no previous knowledge or experience in hedge accounting required. You will, however, need to be familiar with LME futures and options.

Benefits for you

You will know how to put hedge accounting theory into practice through the use of interactive risk management software which helps you build and stress-test your own hedging strategies.

Benefits for your organisation

Unless companies decide to use hedge accounting, the main accounting standards require all derivatives to be marked to market in each reporting period and changes in their fair value to be shown in earnings statements. Hedge accounting enables companies to show such changes in fair value in equity reserves rather than in income statements. Organisations will benefit from having employees who have a clear understanding of hedge accounting theory which can be used in the workplace, improving both the effectiveness of reporting and forecasting for the company.

What will you learn?

  • Find out how International Reporting Standards and IAS 39 hedge accounting requirements can be applied in practice
  • Gain a comprehensive overview of the financial implications of applying hedge accounting
  • Learn how the hedge accounting life cycle operates through worked examples
  • Understand the value of effectiveness testing for your own commodity risk

Previous knowledge of the LME and LME future and option contracts and a fundamental understanding of accounting principles.
