Trainers

LME trainers have many years’ experience in the metals and financial industries. Usually former traders, exchange managers or users of the market, they also undergo a formal training programme to facilitate learning in the classroom. Trainers impart knowledge and experience through visual and auditory presentations, which are then tested practically through workshops.

Catherine Markey

Catherine Markey is Head of Education and Marketing at the London Metal Exchange.
She began her career in the metals industry in 1979 as a ring dealer at Gerald Metals.
She went on to become one the first traders of base metal options and managed several successful option trading desks.

She introduced Asian options to base metals and developed several now widely used options trading strategies. Before joining the London Metal Exchange, Catherine was a director of Merrill Lynch (Europe) Ltd.


 

Neil Banks

Following 14 years working for a variety of LME member metals trading firms, Neil Banks joined the LME in 1989 as the LME’s Director of Finance where he worked until his retirement in September 2007. In 1999 he was appointed Director of Operations and in 2004 Director of Strategy. Since his retirement, Neil has worked with the LME on delivering educational seminars and has undertaken various consultancy roles including helping with the identification and documentation of business requirements for LME related systems and working on the development of new risk management business in the resources industry.

Lesley Campbell

Lesley worked for a number of ring-dealing members between 1980 and 2000. She advised multinational companies on risk management, including a major car manufacturer and one of the world’s largest copper mines. Since she set up her own consultancy, Lesley has advised the World Bank and the United Nations on commodity-related projects, as well as a number of small and medium sized companies concerned by the increasing volatility in financial markets. Lesley’s career took a brief detour in 2000 when she wrote a financial thriller called ‘Forged Metal’ on international commodity trading. Keeping an interest in the media, she continues to present business programmes for BBC Radio and writes regular newspaper columns on financial markets.

Simon Hart

Simon started his career at Hambro’s Merchant Bank, gaining experience in FX and deposit markets before helping to establish the “off balance sheet” side of their activities, such as swaps, futures and options. From 1987 to 1998, he traded as an independent market-maker in options products on LIFFE (The London International Financial Futures Exchange – now known as Euronext.liffe). He then moved to Fortis Bank for a period of 2 years where he established and supervised an options trading team. Simon then left the bank to become a founding member of K2.

Bill Beagles

Bill joined Lloyds Bank in 1984 as an economics graduate. He traded FX spot, forwards and options for the bank before helping establish their presence on LIFFE. He has traded successfully on many of Europe’s markets, including the London Stock Exchange and LIFFE in London, the German DTB (now known as Eurex), the Dutch EOE and the French MATIF (now known as Euronext – the new owners of LIFFE). Bill was also a founding member of K2.

Craig Kennedy

Craig is a technical accounting expert who specialises in accounting for financial instruments. He has been involved in providing technical accounting advice, hedge accounting strategies and quantitative support for financial instruments to a wide range of Corporate and Banking clients, and heads up the IFRS project’s pillar of the Financial Instrument Solutions team in London. His experience has been obtained in the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, the United States of America and South Africa.

David Coxell

David, as a Director of Meriman Limited, manages MetalRiskManager.com, a web provider of on-line derivative and hedge analytics to the metals industry. The services include provision of LME based valuations for on and off exchange traded financial instruments and risk management tools to assist industry professionals to both aggregate and differentiate market risk. David is a very experienced business and systems analyst working in banking and trading for more than 20 years, with specialities in metals, energy and equity derivatives.

David Ward

David, is also a Director of Meriman Limited. David is a market professional experienced in many facets of the metals business; working initially for leading LME broker Rudolf Wolff in a number of front, middle and back office roles, then with specialist option market makers, Chicago Research and Trading and Tower Commodities. David, as an independent consultant to the LME, managed the introduction of the LME TAPO, the first Asian option type to successfully launch on any Exchange. As Head of Business Development, for Brady PLC, he was managing the strategic direction and sales effort when in 2004 Brady successfully listed on AIM.

Jorge Dyszel

Jorge graduated as a Certified Public Accountant from the University of Buenos Aires where he worked as a Professor for seven years. He presently works as a Risk Management Consultant. His professional career started in 1981 when he founded Glencore in Argentina. He took over financial responsibilities as CFO and a Member of the Board of Directors. He then moved to Aluar-Aluminio Argentino where he created the company’s LME trading book and trading model. He has wide experience in trading futures and options. In 2003, he directed the feature film ‘Finally the Sea’ which was released worldwide and has also produced other films, TV serials and theatre plays. He is also a yoga instructor with a qualification from the Kundalini
Research Institute.

Joanna Stuart

Joanna joined the LME as Head of Market Surveillance in 1997, initially on secondment from the Securities and Futures Authority (SFA), and joined permanently in 1998. She worked for the SFA from 1986 and was latterly Deputy Director in the Surveillance Division overseeing firms active in trading on-exchange derivatives. Before coming to the LME, Joanna was on secondment to the Bank of England where she worked with the Bank’s Traded Markets team reviewing risk management and proprietary models of OTC derivatives traded by major banking institutions. At the LME, Joanna was instrumental in the implementation of the Exchange’s electronic position reporting system in 1997 and headed the implementation of the Exchange’s first electronic trading system in 2000.
