How can I become a member of the LME? Broker members (Category 1, 2 & 4) are those companies allowed to issue LME contracts - buying and selling metals futures contracts on behalf of their customers. Trade members (Category 3 & 5) are industrial or financial companies, with an interest in the metals/plastics industry, who take out an LME membership, primarily, to clear their own business (Category 3) or to be kept informed of the strategic development of the Exchange (Category 5). They cannot issue LME contracts; if they wish to trade, they must do so through a broker member or a subsidiary or agent acting on behalf of a broker member. More information about membership and how to apply to become a member of the LME is available from the becoming a member page. You do not need to become a member of the LME to access LME market data. The LME distributes its market data via licensed market data vendors. |
