Mr Hutchinson has more than 30 years experience in non-ferrous metal trading. He joined the Metallgesellschaft group in 1971, became a director of Metallgesellschaft Ltd in 1982 and became Managing Director in 1985. He also served on the boards of various other Metallgesellschaft companies.
In 1999 he became CEO of MG Plc and remained Chairman and Chief Executive of Metallgesellschaft Ltd (a group company). In 2000 Enron bought MG Plc (Metallgesellschaft Ltd was renamed Enron Metals Ltd) and in 2002 Sempra Energy acquired Enron Metals Ltd (Enron Metals Ltd was renamed Sempra Metals Ltd) from Enron and he was appointed President and CEO. In January 2005 he was appointed Deputy Chairman of Sempra Metals Ltd.
He sits on and has chaired various London Metal Exchange committees and was previously a member of the LME's board from 1990-1996.
