In October 2019, the LME announced its responsible sourcing requirements following a formal market-wide consultation.
The requirements for all current and future LME-registered brands are to:
- Implement the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High Risk Areas (“OECD Guidance”) through track A, B or C
- Maintain an ISO 14001 environmental management system certification or equivalent
- Maintain an ISO 45001 / OHSAS 18001 occupational health and safety management system certification or equivalent
The first reporting deadlines for the OECD Guidance requirement began on 30 June 2022 and all aspects of the requirements will be fully embedded by 31 December 2023. The content below explains the requirements and deadlines in detail, provides the documents necessary to comply, and connects you to topic-specific guidance.
If this is your first introduction to responsible sourcing and the LME, the LME recommends starting with the “Overview of LME responsible sourcing” (translations available).
If you are an LME brand producer wishing to submit compliance information, please email the team.

Brands sourcing solely from secondary materials for the entire duration of the reporting period are exempt from the implementation of the OECD Guidance. Instead, these Brands are required to fill out the LME secondary material sourcing attestation form.
