Topical updates

The LME recently announced (notice 23/168) that in early 2024 we are evolving the way we calculate Closing Prices, by expanding the use of volume-weighted average prices (VWAPs) for our most liquid contracts.

Introduced via a phased implementation from January 2024, the LME will extend the VWAP methodology to five additional prompt dates (CASH and the first four 3rd Wednesday monthly dates), for aluminium, copper, zinc, lead and nickel.

Closing price methodology details and related documents to the LME’s ‘Strengthening the market’ initiative can be found here

LME week, the annual gathering of the global metals community in London, took place the week of 9 October 2023. Representatives from the entire supply chain met to discuss current trends in metals markets, expectations for the year ahead, and to network with industry peers and colleagues.

The LME’s flagship Metals Seminar, with ~900 attendees, featured high-profile speakers covering opportunities and issues facing the metal industry today. In addition, the LME Dinner saw 1700 guests attend, including international VIP guests of the LME and its key members.
