The LME aims to support initiatives that create effective and lasting benefits in society.
We hope to achieve this through our corporate philanthropy, by establishing community partnerships and mobilising our employees to participate in volunteer work.

We are delighted to announce that the LME has set up a fund to provide two LME scholarships per year for students at the Camborne School of Mines, to help them on their journey to forging a successful mining career.
The funding will be used to provide LME Scholarships at the Camborne School of Mines, for two graduate students per year. The first cohort of successful applicants will begin their studies in the 2024/25 academic year.
The LME’s local community charity partner is Inspire, an education business partnership charity based in Hackney.
Inspire works with organisations and individuals across London to make a positive impact on local schools and young people’s lives. Their mission is to improve young people’s access to the world of work, raise achievement levels and enhance their future career prospects. As well as assisting with fundraising for the charity through sporting and challenge events, LME staff can volunteer in a number of ways – from assisting with basic numeracy and literacy skills in primary schools, to helping arm senior school students with the key skills required to enter the world of work.
In 2021 we began a partnership with two responsible sourcing charities – Pact and The Impact Facility – with the aim of tackling child labour and children’s rights issues in mining communities directly affected by these responsible sourcing concerns. We are donating $1.7m across two distinct projects, both of which focus on reducing the number of children working in mines. You can find out more about both charities and the projects we are involved in below.
Pact
We are funding a three-year project that Pact, a non-profit international development organisation and expert in artisanal and small-scale mining, will be undertaking in the central and copper-belt provinces of Zambia. The project involves working with communities to deliver improved access to education, social services, vocational training and other activities, with the aim of supporting the reduction of the number of children working in mines.
You can find out more information about Pact on their website:
The Impact Facility
We have also partnered with The Impact Facility, a global sustainability organisation that seeks to bring economic and environmental empowerment to artisanal and small-scale mining communities. We are funding a three-year project that they are undertaking as part of the multi-stakeholder Fair Cobalt Alliance (FCA). The project is designed to significantly reduce the numbers of children working in mines, through providing support to existing schools in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), encouraging attendance and raising the quality of care for students.

The LME has long been a big supporter of the Lord Mayor’s Appeal, which every year works with the financial sector to raise funds for selected charities.
The LME takes part in City Giving Day, which was created by the Lord Mayor’s Appeal to unite the City in raising funds and awareness for their chosen charities.
In the lead-up to and on City Giving Day, the Lord Mayor champions the charity and community activities that companies and organisations undertake to support society.
