On 20 February 2026, the Brand Lister status launched on the LME.

Our brand list is crucial to the orderly functioning of our physically settled futures contracts; and our Brand Listers help the LME maintain and expand our list of physical market brand producers.

This introduction of Brand Lister status follows consultation notice 24/285 and decision notice 25/151.

Who are the LME Brand Listers?

    What is a Brand Lister?

A Brand Lister will process the applications of metal producers wishing to become an LME-listed brand. The Brand Lister acts as an intermediary between the producer and the Exchange.

A Brand Lister must have the appropriate experience, systems, controls and procedures in place, relating to any applicable legal or regulatory requirement relating to any business activities it may undertake.

Why has the LME introduced Brand Lister status?

Before the introduction of the Brand Lister status, Category 5 Members were able to offer a brand listing service. The LME found that there was a relatively small number of Category 5 Members performing this role, which made it complicated for applicant brands to find a service provider.

By creating a specific status for Brand Listers, the LME has created an easily identifiable pool of specialised service providers who are able to support and submit brand applications. This will make the process of becoming an LME brand clearer for prospective brand producers.

Existing Category 5 Members will no longer be able to submit brand applications after 20 February 2026, unless they have become a Brand Lister.

    How was the change implemented?

In consultation notice 24/285, the LME proposed the creation of the Brand Lister status. Following the end of the consultation period and analysis of the feedback, the LME outlined the creation of the Brand Lister status in decision notice 25/151, allowing time for the grandfathering of existing Category 5 Members that wished to become Brand Listers. You can find both notices under “Resources” on this page.

Please send any general queries to the Global Client Development team.

How can I become a Brand Lister?

Prospective Brand Listers should familiarise themselves with decision notice 25/151. Once they feel confident they satisfy the requirements they can apply to become a Brand Lister by emailing the LME SPM team.
