Topical updates
LME Closing Price Methodology:
The LME has extended the VWAP methodology to five additional prompt dates (CASH and the first four monthly dates) for the most liquid contracts (all base metals except for Tin) to introduce greater transparency, broaden access and bring the methodology further in line with the industry standard.
Off-Warrant stock reporting:
The LME enhanced the scope of off-warrant stock reporting to include all eligible metal stored in LME-registered sheds. The new simplified off-warrant stock reporting framework is designed to provide greater visibility of LME-warrantable material and ensure ongoing confidence in the operation of the LME’s markets. The first of our enhanced off-warrant stock reports was published on 20 March 2024.
Low carbon nickel:
On 5 March 2024, the LME published Member Notice 24/116 providing its position on the topic of “green” nickel, its solution for establishing sustainability-related pricing differentials and its broader efforts in driving improved sustainability practices across the industry.
On 9 April 2024, the LME published Member Notice 24/165 providing details of the positive market feedback received regarding its approach to pricing “green” nickel, and an update on the first report issued by digital spot trading platform, Metalshub, in respect of low carbon nickel transaction data.
