LME net-zero target and strategy
In recent years, the LME has set initiatives such as responsible sourcing for LME-listed brands and sustainability disclosures on the LMEpassport platform.
The LME is excited to announce the next stage of this work – the LME’s own net-zero target and commitment to industry-wide initiatives that support a low carbon future.
Target 2040
The LME has committed to achieve net zero emissions by 2040. The LME has developed an internal decarbonisation strategy in order to reach this 2040 target, and is in the process of establishing interim, shorter-term targets, which will be shared publicly in due course.
Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
The LME has publicly committed to SBTi. SBTi provides companies with a framework to reduce emissions in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement (limiting global warming to well-below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and pursuing efforts to limit warming to 1.5°C). The LME is now developing its full emissions reduction target and roadmap, which will be submitted to SBTi for official validation within the next 24 months (by October 2024).

Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD)
The LME is now a public supporter of TCFD and will be working towards reporting on the TCFD’s 11 disclosures recommendations – these centre around the four thematic areas (governance, strategy, risk management, and metrics and targets). The TCFD provides companies with a framework for creating standardised disclosures about the financial risks associated with climate change.
