    Module 1: Introduction to the London Metal Exchange

    This introductory module explains how the LME operates, how prices are discovered and how market participants access and use the Exchange. It is an ideal starting point for professionals beginning their metals market journey and serves as a foundation for more advanced LME education programmes.

    By the end of this module, you will be able to:

    • understand the role of the LME within global metals markets   
    • navigate the LME's unique prompt date structure 
    • explain key market terminology and trading processes 
    • understand the physical delivery mechanism and its benefits
    • recognise the role of clearing and how LME Clear manages risk
    • identify how market participants access the Exchange through member firms and brokers 

     

    Module 2: Hedging with LME Instruments

    This module introduces the principles of hedging and demonstrates how LME instruments can help organisations reduce uncertainty and make more informed commercial decisions. Through practical examples, participants learn how to identify risk exposures and select appropriate hedging approaches. 

    By the end of this module, you will be able to:

    • Understand the fundamentals of futures and options contracts 
    • Distinguish between physically settled and cash-settled contracts  
    • Identify and assess price risk within an organisation 
    • Apply futures and options to manage market exposure 
    • Compare different hedging strategies and select the most suitable approach
    • Understand carries, borrowing and lending within metals markets 
    • Explain the key drivers of option pricing
